Iowa DNR investigating boating fatalities on Mississippi River

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a boating accident that resulted in two fatalities on the Mississippi River near Dubuque on Saturday afternoon.

A call came in around 3:00 p.m. reporting that a boat struck a floating object in the river, ejecting three occupants. A nearby boat rescued one occupant. The other two occupants have been recovered and pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation officers, Key West Fire Department, Dubuque County Conservation Board, and the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. 

This incident remains under investigation.
