Moreland’s of Starkville:

For more than 35 years, Moreland’s in Starkville has been a family-built business, started by Kim’s father and now carried forward by Kim with the same practical, customer-first approach. Over time, she has turned the location into a true multi-service hub.

That mix is wide-ranging: U-Haul rentals, Western Union money orders, a rental office, and a construction business all operate under one roof. It creates a steady rhythm of traffic, with customers stopping in for a variety of services.

When Lottery sales became available, the fit was obvious.

“The more people you can get in your door, the better off you are,” Kim Moreland says.

It’s a simple philosophy, but one that has guided the business for decades. Moreland’s has always been built around serving a steady flow of community needs, and adding the Mississippi Lottery simply expanded that ecosystem. Becoming one of the Lottery’s earliest retail partners in 2019 wasn’t a pivot; it was a continuation of how the business already worked.

Since then, Lottery play has settled naturally into the store’s daily rhythm. Tickets are sold alongside core services, moving through the same steady stream of customers who have long defined Moreland’s pace. Some customers add a ticket to their visit without thinking twice. Others come in with one purpose in mind: to play the Lottery.

And over time, that mix of routine traffic and Lottery play has produced some memorable results. Multiple Mississippi Match 5 winner certificates now hang inside the store, along with standout scratch-off wins of $50,000 and $200,000.

What makes Moreland’s stand out isn’t just the range of services it offers under one roof, it’s how seamlessly they all work together. In Starkville, it has become more than a business. It’s a place where every day errands, steady entrepreneurship, and a little bit of Lottery luck all share the same counter.
